TRADESHOW EXHIBIT
The
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
exhibit at the ASHE Conference and Technical Exhibition offered
new and exciting information. The exhibit featured a look at cooling,
heating and power (CHP) systems in hospitals both today and in the
future. With the theme of “CHP: Good Today, Better Tomorrow,”
the booth addressed both the “here and now” benefits
of conventional combined heat and power systems in hospitals around
the country and the additional benefits that newly developed packaged
CHP systems have to offer to hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
Visitors
to the exhibit, met industry leaders who were charting new paths
with ORNL by packaging power generation and absorption chiller/heater
equipment with control systems into pre-engineered units. These
systems can save significant amounts of capital expenditures and
installation costs compared to conventional CHP (custom) systems.
ASHE attendees who visited during the Monday lunchtime exhibit hours
were able to attend one, two or all three in a series of short (10
minute) presentations made by representatives of the ORNL-funded
teams that are developing a variety of these packaged energy systems.
The
following presenters made the presentations:
- Ed
Mardiat (Burns & McDonnell),
- John
Kelly (Gas Technology Institute),
- Tony
Thibodeau (Honeywell), and
- Tom
Coulbourn (United Technologies)
Among
the literature that was on hand for visitors to take with them was:
- Aa
series of hospital “Fact Sheets” profiling individual
CHP installations in hospitals;
-
Packaged CHP systems fact sheets providing detail on the initiatives
and demonstrations currently underway; and
-
Copies of a CHP Primer recently developed for hospital facility
managers.
