Salvia is a many faceted thing. One day it can be a calming drug that sets you in the mood for love. Other days it can frustrate and annoy. Still other days can leave you breathless with excitement or fear. That, for me, is the wonder of Salvia as a hallucinogenic drug: you really do not know how it will effect you in any one situation before you try it out. Certainly to try it once and then pigeonhole it with marijuana or LSD is almost to miss the point entirely.

One person’s experience with Salvia – and this is someone that I know very well – was of a stream of bats, two headed dogs, banshees and evil women flooding into his room. He conquered his daemons and even tried Salvia again. This time he felt nothing more than a very calm soothing sensation. Combining the two experiences he could quickly see that this was no ordinary drug. It is a ’subjective’ drug that works in different ways according to many different factors and situations.

It is this difference of effect that makes a Salvia trip so exciting, in my opinion. It is what makes it a drug worth discussing and analyzing. It is something that is worthy of further testing.

Now the government are intending to ban it. What a shame.
