So what do you think happens when you hallucinate when you are under the influence of a Salvia trip? It’s something that the vast majority of people who use Salvia just don’t consider. Hopefully I can shed some light on the matter.

Take a plant and plant pot as an example. Your eyes see the plant pot, and maybe your nose can smell the scent of the flowers. Your brain recognizes that these are flowers, and knows roughly what to expect from them. When you’re under the influence of a psychoactive drug like Salvia, then all bets about plants — and anything, really — are off.

Your eyes will still see the plant. The images will get to your brain, but then your brain just won’t know what to do with them. If there’s a table behind the plant then your brain will be equally confused by that. By the time your eyes have spotted the table, your brain will have no idea whether the plant or the table is one, two or even more objects; it will mix and match as it sees fit! This is where you get the hallucinations from, and this is what makes hallucinogenic drugs like Salvia so very interesting!
